Carolina Day School’s Renovations consisted of Upper School Improvements, a new Amphitheater, and a new parking lot. The renovations created beautiful new improvements, transforming the campus’s appearance and functionality to elevate the space for students, teachers, and the greater community.

The Upper School Improvements added a 5,500 SF one-story exterior porch addition at the entrance. The porch is a special solar canopy made of glass Lumos integrated photovoltaic roof panels. Along with the added canopy, other improvements were sidewalks, rain gardens, and accessible paths.

The new amphitheater included 1,500 SF of stepped retaining walls to form the amphitheater seating on an existing hill located to the southwest of the existing upper school building. There was also an added 460 SF of sidewalks, stairs, and accessible paths. This new amphitheater creates a space where all four of CDS’s divisions can come together in one space strengthening school community.

The parking lot project included 152 new parking spaces (6 of which are handicap accessible), a culvert bridge spanning the stream on site that supports two lanes of traffic and a pedestrian sidewalk, concrete headwalls on either side of the culvert, extensive landscaping, stormwater detention basins, and accessible sidewalks.
